Rotary Club: Carlsbad Hi-Noon Project Title: Dictionary Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? For the past 15+ years the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary has been delivering Webster’s dictionaries to every third grader in Carlsbad. The dictionaries purchased thru the SoCal Dictionary Project and are delivered to the nine elementary schools in the Carlsbad Unified School District. The Club has also provide Spanish-English dictionaries for those students that speak Spanish at home. The club affixes a sticker in the front cover that has the Four Way Test and a place for their name. For some of these students this is the first book that they have ever owned. The teachers use these books in the classroom all year and then the students are able to bring the book home. This is great program for our Rotarians to get out into the community and interact in a positive way with the next generation! 2. How many people benefited from this project? 900+ students 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Carlsbad Students and Teachers get access to a real dictionary so students learn how to look up words 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 24 Rotarians volunteered 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians picked up the books, affixed stickers of the 4-way test in the books and delivered the books to the students at each school in the classrooms or in an assembly format. 6.
