District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2019-20

Rotary Club: Encinitas

Project Title: Domestic Violence Housing

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

This project was originally to support roof repairs to Domestic Violence Transitional Housing units at the Community Resource Center. However, a more pressing need suddenly came up, when heavy rains flooded the CRC's Food & Nutrition Center, which normally serves almost 500 families. CRC requested that the funds be directed to support repairs, with the need becoming especially more critical as the coronavirus pandemic forced more community members to seek food help from CRC. With approval from the District Grants Administrator, we were able to grant CRCs request and issue a check (uploaded) for the repairs.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 500+ families

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries are the 500 families in need of food assistance served by CRC. With the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, the role of CRC in helping those in need in the community increased - with more families suddenly in need of assistance.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 4

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Rotarians worked to verify the needs presented in the initial proposal, and then to verify the needs presented in the revised proposal to redirect the funds toward getting the Food & Nutrition Center back on its feet. Encinitas Rotary maintains a positive working relationship with CRC. Encinitas Rotary helps CRC pack holiday food boxes each December, and also participated in the District's emergency coronavirus matching grant program to help CRC buy food.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
