Rotary Club: Southeast San Diego Project Title: Youth Programs 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Grant was used to fund our club’s Youth Programs & associated projects. All projects/programs took place in the Southeast San Diego community. Youth Exchange: Cost of incidental travel related expenses Scholarships: 4-$500.00 scholarships awarded to college bound Interact students from Lincoln & Morse High Schools. Scholarships/checks will be presented to recipients in late May/June 2020. 3rd Grade Dictionaries: 1,064 dictionaries distributed to 3rd Grade students in 14 elementary schools in District 4. Rotarians made classroom presentations, taught the class about Rotary’s 4-Way Test and showed them how to use the dictionary. RYLA: Funded for 6 students from Morse & Lincoln prepaid to D5340 for 2020/2021 LEAD: Sponsored team of 2- 8th Grade students from Knox Middle School INTERACT: Funded supplies (banners). Harlem Grown Project introduced students from Morse High School to Community Gardening to lay foundation for upcoming agricultural program at Morse. SCHOOL: Donated school supplies to NAACP & JRYMCA Back to School Projects 2. How many people benefited from this project? Over 2,000 elementary, middle & high school students 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Beneficiaries and those impacted the most by these projects/programs are the students attending elementary, middle & high schools in Southeast San Diego. The benefits & impact of the projects were significant and on-going. Reading, writing and homework skills improved for 1,000+ 3rd Graders in the Dictionary project. Candidates for in the Youth Exchange Program are required to be members of their high school Interact Club, as a result, Interact membership and involvement increased. Student participation & # of Interact service projects also increased. Back to school project provided much needed basic supplies to students in need. The Harlem Grown Project will benefit students at Morse HS as well as the community. The Rotary Areas of Focus met by these projects is Education. 4.
