Project Title: Youth Programs - LEAD and RYLA


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

LEAD took place October 2019. San Diego Coastal Rotary sponsored 6 students for a total of $1,500. LEAD helps teach 8th graders leadership, ethics, aspiration, and determination.

RYLA payment was made in February 2020 for the planned April 2020. Four students were being sponsored for a total of $1,300. Event was canceled but refunds are not being issued and will be used toward sponsoring students for the next event. RYLA is a leadership camp for 11th graders to reward their leadership and inspire them to be future leaders.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

8th and 11th grade students are taught leadership skills in an age appropriate way. They are encouraged to be servant leaders and inspired to make a difference in the world as the next generation of leaders.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Dozens across many clubs.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Serve on the LEAD committee to design and execute the program.

Coordinate with schools to select students. Interview students.

Serve as advisors/facilitators at LEAD and RYLA - leading the students through the program.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

n/a - these are both Rotary programs.
