District Grant Final Report

District 5010

2020-21

Rotary Club: Anchorage

Project Title: Rotary Cares for Kids

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Rotary Cares for Kids (RC4K) was initiated as a District wide service project in Rotary Year 2017-19. The organizers of the project envisioned an opportunity for Rotary to bring a little joy into the lives of Alaskan foster kids and later homeless and other disadvantaged children. The duffle bags and backpacks are an attractive and practical item that the kids can call their own. RC4K has branched out from the original concept of backpacks and duffles to helping foster parents with items required for foster homes. The program has brought smiles to kids in every corner of the state.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 250+

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Beneficiaries are children and families engaged in the Foster Care System. when Children are removed from their home. Kids are being given a backpack or duffle bag and Foster parents are receiving items that OCS requires prior to placement. eg. Fire Extinguishers,

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 18 clubs are currently engaged in this project.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

We have clubs working with foster care organizations distributing backpacks and birthday bags to youth in their area, and hosting holiday parties for foster kids/families, Many clubs have organized "packing" parties to gather comfort items (toothpaste, "Rotary Cares for Kids" fleece blankets, etc.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

RC4K works with many non profits who assist parents and several reach out for help with specific requests. To close out this project, RC4K requested a check from the District Treasurer for $3000 payable to Reach 907.This money will be used to fund two birthday parties organized by Reach 907, a Matsu Valley non profit who focuses on children in Foster Care. These birthday parties will be attended by kids who in many cases don't even know when their birthday is and never celebrated a birthday. This action will complete the disbursement of grant funds for P-3195.
