Project Title: COVID 19 - Food to orphanages


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Fernanda Torres, our peace chair, carefully orchestrated this project. While quarantined in Mexico, she used the $500 to purchase 1140 pounds of beans, rice and packed other donated food to feed some of the most vulnerable people in the Tijuana area. She purchased the food in bulk, then used local volunteers to package the food and deliver.

2. How many people benefited from this project? approximately 500-600

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries receiving food were 1) an orphanage: Casa Hogar Sonrisa de Angeles in Maclavio Rojas - 63 kids, 3adults, 2) Rayito de Luz y Esperanza: an orphanage and shelter for abused women - 42 children, 3) Los Altos Community: 75 families, each receiving a kilo of beans and rice per bag, 4) Tu Casa Sanctuary: 32 women and children, 14 men - all refugees and victims of violence from Central America, 5) 12 families in Playas community 6) 8 families in Cerro Colorado

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Fernanda Torres and Carlos Carrillo did all of the work mentioned above.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

75 bags were packed by church volunteers in El Senor De La Resureccion church. Maria Ruiz from the Rock Church in San Diego helped in the Playas community. Andy Torres and Fernanda's sister helped deliver to Rayito Orphanage.

Fernanda and Carlos did the bulk of the rest of the packing and delivering.
