Rotary Club: San Marcos Project Title: COVID-19 Meals for Youth 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Meals for Youth project was started because of the closure of our local Boys & Girls Club due to COVID-19. Serving hundreds of children per day, the Boys & Girls Club partnered with Feeding San Diego to hand out bagged/boxed meals to the community's youth Monday-Friday from 2-4pm. When the demand surpassed the supply, Rotary Club of San Marcos along with this District 5340 Grant, provided funds to increase the number of meals available. The meal distribution took place at the San Marcos Boys & Girls Club facility, where a drive-through was set up for parents to safely receive the food. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 400-600 youth 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries were the members and families of the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos as well as the local community of underserved youth. They were able to receive a "Grab & Go" meal each afternoon which contained a hot entree, vegetable, fruit, milk and a small breakfast item for the next day. Prior to Rotary's support, the Boys & Girls Club was turning away approximately 100-150 children each day. The humanitarian need met was feeding our young people when schools & others weren't able to keep up with demand. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 6 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. The Executive Board of Rotarians met by phone & online with Boys & Girls Club officials to determine the need and the best manner in which to support the B&G Club after it was forced to close in March. The plan was formulated and then presented to the Club for approval through the Zoom platform. District funds were applied for and Rotarians contributed more funds so that the impact would be even greater. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Meals at a nominal cost were provided to the Boys & Girls Club through Feeding San Diego. A staff member from the Boys & Girls Club joined our Zoom meeting and shared the details and the success of this program. 7. Income
