Rotary Club: Seward Project Title: Young Entrepreneur Scholarship 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Jake Collins along with Kelly Ann Cavaretta led a high school class consisting of 15 students through the Junior Achievement, Be Entreprenurial, curriculum. Though there was some interest with 3 of the students, due to time constraints we had no applicants for our YES program we had initially intended. Because of this our board decided to pivot the funds to another project. Partnering with Sustainable Seward for implementation, the Rotary Club of Seward will purchase 10 outdoor recycle cans that will be adopted and maintained by the City of Seward or local businesses. Each can will have a Rotary logo decal with “Imagine Rotaryâ€, Protect the Environment, Seward Rotary Club and a QR code for our website on it, and another decal with the local business name or logo. 12.9" x 18.9" for the business logos after we know who they are. I can help design them as I did these. The Seward club is paying for: -the recycle cans ($5,595.29) -10 Rotary logo decals ($726.00) -10 Custom Heavy Duty Stickers ($282.00) Total of the three is $6603.29 The check for $282.00 will be held by the Seward club until we identify who the business sponsors will be. Checks for the rest of the money ($6,321.29) will all be written and delivered by June 24, 2022. 2. How many people benefited from this project? All of the residents of Seward along with the visitors. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Anyone passing through Seward with recyclable waste will be benefited by having ease of access to the recycle cans. Everyone who enjoys Seward's pristine contrasting landscape merging a walkable town, beautiful mountains and the ocean's expanse will be benefited along with those who partake of but don't appreciate those blessings, because we are empowering our residents and visitors to protect our environment with a little less hassle. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 4+ 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Fearing leaving some out... Jake Collins and Kelly Ann Cavaretta taught the J.A. curriculum over the course of 9 weeks to the participating Seward High School Students. Mary Ann Benoit led the way helping to find an appropriate pivot when we received no applicants from the students for our original intended project and she designed the decals for the recycle cans Lori Landstrom, a Rotarian and board member of Sustainable Seward, presented our idea to them and helped answer their questions and get quick response and commitment so we could button this project before the deadline. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Sustainable Seward started a program to promote recycling in Seward. They will be creating and making available a map showing where the cans are around the city. They went to the city of Seward for permission to have cans on their property and recruited small businesses to adoption of each can and be responsible for the upkeep. Their holdup was funding, but once funded they will be continuing to oversee the cans in the future. 7. Income
