Project Title: Water Safety and Literacy Prog


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Construction and excavation work done at Little Susitna Rotary Park at Little Susitna River bridge in Houston, Alaska.

1. Feb 2020 Trees were felled and cut up for use as firewood for area residents

2. June 2020 Burn branches, clear stumps with backhoe

3. July 2020 Gravel brought in and leveled for pavilion

4. Aug 2020 Forms built and concrete foundation poured for pavilion

5. Oct 2020 Pavilion constructed

6. Nov 2020 Boat launch excavated, riprap installed. Park area leveled and all areas protected from erosion.

2. How many people benefited from this project? hundreds

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

This project provides a safe boat launch where none existed.

Feb 2020 tree cutting (4 Rotarians all day)

June 2020 slash burned, stumps pulled (6 Rotarians 1 day)

July 2020 installing pavilion pad (7 Rotarians x 2 days)

Aug 2020 installing foundation (8 Rotarians x 2 days)

Oct 2020 constructing pavilion (9 Rotarians x 2 days)

Nov 2020 excavation and construction (2 Rotarians x 4 days)

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

City of Houston, Alaska provided support with wood chipping, fire support during burning, plowing the road so we could get trucks in.
