Rotary Club: Del Mar Project Title: Boys & Girls Clubs Summer Camp 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The project allowed Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito to conduct its Summer Adventure Camps Program for campers ages 5-15 by funding required facility modifications and needed supplies due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The required modifications were based on state and federal safe-reopening protocols for youth camps. Four facilities were opened and maintained per the protocols. They are Polster Clubhouse in Carmel Valley, Harper Clubhouse in Solana Beach, Griset Clubhouse in Encinitas and Del Mar Clubhouse in Del Mar. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 223 youth in attendance and 48 staff working the camps. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries were both the youth who attended the camps and the staff who were able to continue work during this period. This funding ensured that the summer camps opened and served youth at the four locations. Youth continued their education, play and socialization over the summer in a safe and supportive environment. Staff were gainfully employed in this insecure environment where we've seen significant employee furloughs and lay-offs. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 2 5. What did they do? Del Mar Rotarian Tony Villasenor communicated with SuLynn Daugherty, Special Events and Marketing Manager Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, about project scope including modification and facility requirements.
