Rotary Club: Encinitas Project Title: Vietnam School Dormitory 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Many students at the Tra Lanh Secondary School in Tat Tra District of Vietnam are from remote minority ethnic communities 5-8 km and up to 20 km from the school with dangerous river crossings in very rugged mountainous terrain. These students were living 6 days a week at the school in 20 metal shipping containers. This project supported the Build A School Foundation, a San Diego-based 501(c)3, to build a 5-room, 175 square meter dormitory for these students plus additional space for bathrooms and kitchen in 2021. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 189 students + future generations 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Beneficiaries are nearly 190 Tra Lanh secondary school students, Tra Lanh town, Tay Tra district, Quang Ngai province. In addition, the next generations of students will continue to benefit from the project. This project will prevent the students from walking up to 20 km through mountains and streams with many dangers around them. During the Monsoon season, children will be saved from falling into the raging water and drowning. Moreover, the humanity value of this project is creating a “common†house which helps students improve their living skill, integrate into the community by sharing kitchen works, cleaning the boarding house and studying together…thereby, the comprehension of “contributing for the community†will be formed 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Two 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.
