Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: Buddy's Backpacks 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Many families are not able to afford backpacks and school supplies for their children, yet these items are important to their educational success. Children get more excited about the school year when they have new supplies. Buddy's Backpacks collects backpacks and school supplies for local children. These items are then distributed to any child who needs one during their distribution day at local schools. Children are allowed to pick their own backpack, which makes them very happy. Last year, 1600 full backpacks were distributed. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 1250 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Beneficiaries were children from San Diego's East County communities who needed a backpack and basic school supplies to start the year off right and ready to learn. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 10 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Donated funds, held Facebook fundraisers, handed out backpacks on distribution day 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? SMOAC held backpack and school supply drives, Santee School District served as the distribution site, Dustin Trotter (local active citizen) took over the event from the original organizer who passed away in April. 7.
