Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: Meals on Wheels East County 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? We presented a check to the manager of Meals on Wheels East County to help support the increased need for food during COVID.In addition, members of our club are weekly drivers for Meals on Wheels. Also, club members hand wrote kindness cards to be given to clients. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 100 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Meals on Wheels serves nearly a half a million meals throughout the entire county. Meals on Wheels is devoted to the health, safety and well-being of San Diego seniors. Meals on Wheels is the only agency providing meals for 7 days a week, including holidays. They cover the entire county, including delivery into the over 3,049 square miles of rural and unincorporated areas. Meals on Wheels San Diego County subsidizes 60% of the costs for meals, delivery, and other services provided, regardless of a senior's ability to pay. They use a large and caring volunteer workforce who deliver meals with a hug and a smile and ensure that homebound seniors are OK. Frequently the volunteer may be the only person the senior sees all day, providing human contact and a safety net, particularly for those seniors living alone. 4. Club members will help raise money and put together We Care Packages. In addition, members of our club are weekly drivers for Meals on Wheels.
