Rotary Club: E-Club of San Diego Global Project Title: Virtual Internship Training 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This project took place in Santa LucĂa Guatemala with senior high school business students. When COVID 19 hit all schools in Guatemala were shut down and almost all transportation and businesses. The Federal department of education requires senior high school business students to perform an internship which of course could not be done. We worked with the Department of Education to accept virtual businesses from the students. This grant supported them doing this work with originally phones and then laptops which we supplied. We supplied on line help to them through WhatsApp. An American teacher taught them English as a Second Language and they had weekly business related exercises from our EClub members who knew business. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 200+ including the 16 students in the project and indirectly their families and the school staff 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The students were able 1) adapt the business to target local Guatemalans so when the shelter mandate lifts they can sell to local people, 2) learn all aspects of a business (real or virtual) by assessing topics and examples related personnel, inventory, daily accounting practices, profit and loss and creating a virtual business Students did their virtual business by using WhatsUpp on their cell phones: sending and receiving texts, taking pictures of their work done on paper and sending it to their local teachers . Being able to finish a high school education. In a third world country is a big accomplishment . They will be able to improve their own economic level as well of their communities 4.
