Rotary Club: Coronado Project Title: Rain Water Harvesting 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? A rain harvesting reservoir tank was purchased and installed to collect rain water during the rainy season and store for use by the Missionvale gardeners during the drought season. Project was begun in 2020 and tank is currently installed on site at the Missionvale Care Center in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Approx. 25,000 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries of the project are the community members at Missionvale Care Center. The MVCC gardeners will now be able to expand their gardens due to increased water availability. Crops are consumed by the gardeners, as well as distributed to the nutrition/wellness unit at MVCC which provides food for the Missionvale community. The increase in garden production will help to alleviate the hunger that is so prevalent in this impoverished area. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 5 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Because this was an international project, two Rotarians from the Port Elizabeth West Rotary Club assisted with the engineering at the site and advised on the purchase of the tank. They were also instrumental in moving the project along during the Covid delay of the project. Rotarians from our club assisted with the writing of the grant and the fund raising aspect of the project. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? The Marketing Manager at Missionvale was our key contact on the day to day progress of the project. She also assisted with obtaining vendors' bids for the project. MissionvaleUSA is a non-profit organization that assisted with the fund raising for this project. 7. Income
