Project Title: Tree Planting in Tamale

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Rotaract Club of Tamale, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tamale has committed to a 10-year plan for tree planting in Ghana with their first year target of planting 100,000 trees to the Tamale and Tolon District cities.

On the 20th of May, 2021, the project team met with the stakeholders of community for this year's tree planting which include the Chief of the community, Member from the Ghana forestry Commission- District Division, Youth Leader, Women leader and the Assembly Member for the community. The team deliberated over the implementation process considering the time, type of trees needed and Location within the community to plant the trees. A committee was formed to be in charge of the project. The committees finalized the decision and their research.

The Rotaract Project team wrote letters to the forestry Division in Tamale soliciting for partnership to ensuring sustainability and growth. As part of this we got to meet with the regional division Director in charge of forestry to ascertain the feasibility of the project.

The forestry in every year has a target of trees to plant and meet a target for the year which we partnered to ensuring the success of such initiative. In collaboration with the forestry Commission, we were able to start the Project with the city Greening which target the Town centre where we planted 100 Trees near some offices and household. Through our collaboration with the forestry Commission we started to plant about 6,000 seedlings of trees in the Tali Community under the Tolon District and hope to add additional 3000 seedlings all in partnership with the forestry Commission and the support from Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps, we hope to plant over 10,000 Seedling by the close of this year to mark the beginning of the first phase of the project which is budget over $7000-10,000. In the spirit of partnership, we hope to accomplish this year's target of trees by the close of October.

The Project has planted 5 variety of trees which includes (Mango (3 varieties), Cashew and Acacia). We believe 4 variety would provide economic and social development as it would in future provide jobs and business for the community members.

In conclusion, Plant Trees Save Earth initiative is a continuous project which would be looking for more partners as we hope to expand every year
