Project Title: Little Su Interpretive Trail


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Due to COVID and Mat-Su Borough staffing delays all permitting was delayed and then weather conditions delayed work progress on low areas for completion of project as described.

We have contracted with Mat-SU Conservation Services to secure all permitting with Mat-Su Borough and related agencies for all permits and designs required as this projects pertains to flood plain areas. For Phase 1 of the trail projects.

We have recently contracted with Mat-Su Conservation Services on Phase 2 which includes purchasing and storing of all material required for trail hardening, signage and boardwalk as required by permitting agencies along flood plains.

We are continuing trail clearing throughout the winter months this year for trails and will lay basic designs with Snow-Machines allowing winter use. This will be continued and completed Spring of 2023 with completion af all trail systems and signage.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Everyone you will use the Rotary Pavilion in Houston at the Little Su will benefit from this multi-use trail when it is completed,

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Constructed Kid's Don't Float Life Jacket Loaner Board began trail clean-up and installed place-holder signage on trail.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

Mat-Su Conservation Services assisted with obtaining MSB and state permits identifying wetlands and designing trail and coordinating work with MSB on managing construction. Additionally Mat-SU Conservation Services will be working as liaison with other Trail Organizations allowing Susitna Rotary to enlarge original trail project.
