Rotary Club: Solana Beach Project Title: Uganda School Latrines 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? In simple terms, the overall project involves multiple phases of work, construction, installation and multiple products to complete it. The Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club agreed to fund the cost of the actual 14 toilet bowls identified on the receipt as "Squatting pan complete". They have been purchased and will be installed by a professional contractor. Solar Panel to generate electric power for water pump is being ordered now. The installation of all will be covered by the labor expense. The amount of excess expenses will be provided by additional donations from private donors. 2. How many people benefited from this project? More than 400 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Children in the Garden of Knowledge school in Gulu Uganda will have a sanitary place to go to poop & pee. Then they can wash themselves with running water from the new system. This is a humanitarian need to improve sanitation and hygiene. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Four Rotary Clubs participated. Three contributed funding and time and effort to complete the project. Two clubs contributed DDF funding and another club just donated $1,000 non-DDF. The club in Uganda did not contribute funds, but they did participate by handling disbursements. If an average of 5 members per club 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. (1) The Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club has been the receiver of all donations. We have used our club foundation to collect donations and channel that by using our foundation guidelines and procedures. The foundation board have managed that for us to be sure all is handled according to protocol. (2) The Ssese Island Rotary Club of Kampala Uganda D9210 have created a designated bank account to securely handle disbursements of the funds to the school. The procurement committee oversee the purchasing of items for the project. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? "The only other cooperating organization" besides Rotary is the bank in Kampala where our club foundation deposits the funds that have been donated. It is Centenary Bank in Kampala, Uganda. 7. Income
