Rotary Club: Escondido Project Title: Little Free Libraries 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The funds were used to purchase the materials and build four Free Little Libraries for kids. These Libraries will be installed near Elementary Schools in low-income parts of Escondido and near public parks with playgrounds for kids. 2. How many people benefited from this project? We hope that hundreds of kids will exchange their books for years to come. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Elementary school kids are the ones that we built these Free Little Libraries for. With growing amount of electronic devices used by kids, books are no longer accessible to many of them. We hope that cozy little "box" with fun books inside will attract kids, and will encourage them to read stories, enjoy their one-on-one time with books. We are also planning to regularly maintain these little libraries to make sure kids have a nice variety of books available for exchange. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Seven 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Planning, creating blue prints, building, installation, donating books, maintenance. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? One of our Rotarian's construction company is providing labor for installation of these Little Libraries. 7. Income
