District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2021-22

Rotary Club: E-Club of San Diego Global

Project Title: College Scholaships

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Rotary Club of San Diego Global s pleased to report the completion of this District Grant P-4024, awarding 5 scholarships to qualified students for their college education first semester sophomore year 2022 in Guatemala. These students are the first in their respective families to finish high school and attend the first year of college. The funds have gone to admission fees, tuition and internet access. Other contributions to their education, including second semester freshmen year tuition, admission fees, laptops, Microsoft Office and books, were supplied from a group of women who are members and friends of RECSDG.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 200: 5 students, their families and community

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Four students attend the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Antiguan, studying business administration, and one, Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala in Guatemala City, studying engineering.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 10

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Guatemala was hard hit by the pandemic and is slow getting vaccinations and their economy back. These students had a thriving tourism business before the pandemic. They will, no doubt, bounce back with the advantage of a college education, creating a positive future for themselves, their families, and their community. Because of the continuing problem of the pandemic, they all are still doing distance learning and the laptops, software and internet access are a necessity for attending classes.

Supportive documents: The break down by student is in the file "Final Report" as a PDF document. Other PDF documents include the accounting in Guatemala (Contabilidad) and transfer of finds from the Club to Maureen Duncan to Monograms sent to Guatemala to pay for the students' scholarships.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
