Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

St. Madeleine Sophie's Center serves individuals with developmental disabilities through nationally recognized innovative programs. We combine our culture of care and creativity within quality programs to provide liberal arts education, practical skills development, employment, and dignity for a lifetime.

St. Mads will be able to equip their computer lab with a 3-in- l 3D Printer for their clients (adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities) to learn about and develop 3-D designs.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) has helped people with developmental disabilities, their families and communities, discover, explore, and nurture potential – giving thousands a chance to live life to the fullest. The Center truly provides a “Life Program” that allows students to learn and grow, and enjoy friendships and social activities throughout their lives. Students come to SMSC’s five-acre campus in the foothills of El Cajon, California, daily to learn or upgrade marketable skills, develop creative outlets, earn an income, make new friends, and gain a sense of independence and self esteem. This “Life Program” includes recent high-school graduates to seniors in their 80s.

For more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities,

that place is St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.

Alison Cummings is on the Board of Directors for St Mads. As a community volunteer and retired instructor she is concerned with the education of the students at the center.

Our Rotary assists on working on the education and dignity of St Mads students.
