District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2021-22

Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside

Project Title: Addressing Hunger in our World

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

We presented checks to 3 organizations, Meals on Wheels of East County, Christian Help Center, and Jewish Family Services. These organizations will use the funds to provide much needed food for residents of East County. In addition, members of our club are weekly drivers for Meals on Wheels. Finally, a member of our club volunteers regularly with Jewish Family Services.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 60

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Through a club survey, we determined hunger issues to be a major focus area for our club. Additionally, food insecurity has become an even bigger issue since the start of the COVID pandemic. We donated funds to three organizations that address hunger needs in Santee, Lakeside and the Greater East County region. This allows the food assistance to be spread across a variety of individuals in need. Finally, providing monetary donations allows the organizations to purchase food themselves, which they can do at a much lower cost, thereby impacting more individuals.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 5

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Besides funds provided, members of our club are weekly drivers for Meals on Wheels. Additionally, a member of our club volunteers regularly with Jewish Family Services.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
