Project Title: Student Workforce Development


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Referred community youth, go to COMPACT center and receive services. We have done specific outreach to Valley HS for those students to attend the Achievement Center and participate in the Work Readiness component. This group of students have tailored Work Readiness Workshops once a week that cover Interviewing Skills, Resume Building, Cover Letter Creation, Dress for Success, Letters of Recommendation and References, and Soft Skills. This is 6-week curriculum that ends with a guided job search workshop and personalized job interested assessment through O*NET. These youth are then allowed to participate in other Workforce Development activities including Career Exploration through other classes and off-site visits of different industry sectors. With an average attendance of 15 youth in a cohort and offering this track 1 time/quarter; we have impacted 60 youth.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

These youth are then allowed to participate in other Workforce Development activities including Career Exploration through other classes and off-site visits of different industry sectors. With an average attendance of 15 youth in a cohort and offering this track 1 time/quarter; we have impacted 60 youth.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Provided mentoring and participated in targeted training sessions to help youth that were impacted by the pandemic.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

COMPACT launched a unique After School Program aimed at serving System Impacted youth, in what is now called the Achievement Center.
