Project Title: Refugee Entrepreneur Program


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

In addition to the financial contribution of 20,000.00, Anchorage Rotary volunteered at Grow North Farm during 2 events; 1)Fall 2022 - Helped winterize the Farm; and 2)Spring 2023 - Help the Farm prepare for the summer grow season

2. How many people benefited from this project? 50+

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Afghanistan Refugees who have been displaced and creating a new life in Alaska. Anchorage Rotary's involvement in partnership with ACLT and Grow North Farms, help these refugees become members of a new community; providing job skills and income. Many of the refugees are woman with children.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 120

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

The Club held 3 project events where Rotarians donated their time.

Fall 2022 - Helped winterize the Farm by pulling weeds, and insulating the farm bed.

Spring 2023 - Helped prepare the farm for the planting season. Rotarians moved soil, cleaned up the farm, and built planting wagons.

May 2023 - Held a lunch at the Farm providing a personal connection between Rotarians, partnering groups, and the refugees who the project assists.

Anchorage Community Land Trust - Landowners and backbone for the Farm

Grow North Farm - Organizer and executor of the program
