Rotary Club: Anchorage Gateway Project Title: Winter Gear for K-5 Kids 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Gateway Rotary Club provided $1000 checks to each Muldoon Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary School, and Tyson Elementary School. These funds were designated for winter gear (hats, gloves, snow pants, jackets) as deemed appropriate by the school leadership and nurse at each location. This allowed Rotary to make use of Gaming receipts from prior projects, and provided maximum flexibility for each school. Our club agree to cover any shortfalls in the event the budget was exceeded at each school. 2. How many people benefited from this project? This was not possible to track but easily exceeded 200 and could have been as high as 500-600. kids and of course the school administration staffs. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Elementary students at each school were the primary beneficiaries. The kids, being from underserved areas of Anchorage, are often in need of winter gear or improved winter gear due to their inability to afford the gear, losing items, and wear and tear. The schools used judgment to either loan the items provided or give them away as they saw fit. This helped kids to stay warm for recess, field trips, and commuting to and from school so they could better focus on learning and taking active part in activities. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? At least 6 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians engaged school leaders and nurses, provided checks for each school, and helped hand out some items at a few events (field trips). 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? N/A. Saying that, another Gateway Rotarian added a personal donation of $1500 to the project for one of the schools to increase its effectiveness. Use of these additional funds was not tracked or managed by Rotary. 7. Income
