Rotary Club: College Project Title: ArcticFest 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Arctic Fest was held over the labor day weekend in 2022 as a two-day celebration of interior Alaska. Our focus was on Rotary's contribution to innovation in the form of the Rural Alaska Water Project, which we helped to fund. It created and deployed portable (by helecopter and fixed-wing aircraft) emergency clean watersystems to rural communities that experience an emergency with their existing systems. We had a staffedtable in the Expo with prominent Rotary identification, had a scale model of the unit and helicopter and distributed literature about the project and Rotary. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Over 2000 people attended the event, most who visited the expo engaged with us on some level. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Everyone who interacted with us expressed interest in the water project and were often unaware of the breadth of Rotary's focus areas - in particular the concept of Rotary's engagement with the Environment as a focus often came as a surprise. The beneficiaries were the general public who gained new knowledge about the challenges of potable water in rural communities, who learned about Rotary in a new light, and Interior Rotary Clubs whose reputation has been enhanced through our participation in Arctic Fest. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 15 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Worked with the organizers to recruit and sponsor the Green Market Place in order to highlight Rotary's new focus on the Environment. Engaged with a key innovator to bring the model from Delta to Fairbanks, recorded a walkthrough of the scale model in order to prepare Rotarians to staff the exhibit table, staffed the table and engaged with visitors, sent follow up thank you notes and engaged with Arctic Fest to improve future iterations of the event. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Arctic Fest is a collaboration between the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Northern Environmental Center and the Fairbanks Concert Association. They were the principal organizers of the event. We worked with that team to organize and recruit for the Green Market Place component of the event. 7. Income
