Rotary Club: Rancho Bernardo Sunrise (San Diego) Project Title: Rady Children's Mental Health 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This grant helped fund the development and dissemination of a "mental health first aid" curriculum for educators, school counselors and administrators that focuses on recognizing signs that children and youth are in mental distress. It then equips those adults with how to access care within the school setting, Rady Children's health system and the community. This program is initially deployed within San Diego Unified School District with the plan to expand to other school districts as additional funding becomes available. 2. How many people benefited from this project? With over 120,000 in San Diego Unified alone, this project has immense impact 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The initial role out is to San Diego Unified High Schools, supporting students in grades 9-12. Child health and education are positively impacted by this grant. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 5 clubs from district 5340 supported this grant 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Laura Mello and DG Chuck Pretto worked with members from the Rady Children's Hospital team to present to clubs throughout the district (including the district conference) to educate members on the mental health crisis affecting kids today and the resources available to support his growing need. 6.
