Rotary Club: San Marcos Project Title: Literacy Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Rotary Club of San Marcos helps to address the need in the San Marcos Unified School District to support the Title 1 Schools by promoting literacy in first grade classrooms. Title 1 Schools are defined as having a student base where at least 40% come from low-income families. The Club used the funds to purchase a book for each first grade student in those schools. After the books were purchased, club members gathered and placed Rotary stickers inside each book, followed by two Rotarians visiting first grade classes in six schools. They informed students about Rotary, read the book to them and then distributed a book to each child to keep. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 700 books were distributed 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?
