Rotary Club: La Jolla Sunrise Project Title: Coast Walk Trail Improvements 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? 1. Improvements / repairs and replacements to iconic La Jolla Coast Walk Trail (Prospect Road trailhead) 2. Years of vegetation were cleared from the trailhead and from the trail walk down to the coast trail. The vegetation removal created a more safe trail, reduced hazards and also created a new limited view of the Pacific Ocean from Prospect Trailhead parking lot. 3. Dumped concrete was removed and an outdated, dilapidated chain link fence barrier was replaced with 8inch by 8 inch post and chain 2. How many people benefited from this project? Due to central public location: innumerable tourists and residents 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? This was a community improvement project - trail walkers are now provided with a safe secure route to the coast walk - tourists and residents were provided limited ocean view from trail head. prior to vegetation removal, vegetation obstructed the ocean view. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 20 La Jolla Sunrise Rotarians participated in our fundraiser. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians: sold fundraiser tickets, coordinated online ticket sales, manned fundraiser sign in and registration booths, participated in fundraiser dedication ceremony, served as live auctioneer, 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? 1. Friends of Coast Walk Trail, a 501c coordinated on site fundraiser event 2. Friends of Coast Walk Trail President (she is also a La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club member) coordinated the project with city planners, local contractor (Black Sage Environmental) and La Jolla Sunrise Rotary 7.
