Project Title: Tree Nursery in South Sudan


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Rotary Club of Del Mar provided $3000 to the Rotary Club of Juba for the development of a tree nursery. The host club will purchase seedlings and other materials to plant this nursery on the property of the newly built orphanage. These trees will improve the environment and may be used for future fund raising to support the operation of the orphanage. The grounds keeper will be trained n maintaining and supervising the growth of the trees.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 100

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The children and staff of the orphanage. This otherwise barren plot of land will have spots of shade to protect the children from the otherwise harsh elements during the day.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? approximately 10

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

They designed the nursery as well as purchased the appropriate seedlings and materials to ensure the seedlings' growth. They constructed the awnings and planted the trees.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The Confident Children out of Conflict (CCC) orphanage. Helen Murshali acted as the primary contact on the process.
