Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: Fighting Food Insecurity 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Through a club survey, we determined hunger issues to be a major focus area for our club. Food insecurity has become an even bigger issue during and since the COVID pandemic. We donated $750 to Meals on Wheels East County, along with assembling and donating 100 we care bags. We donated $1,000 to the Santee Food Bank to purchase food for those experiencing food insecurity. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 500 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Meals on Wheels - local seniors, this way they can get healthy meals delivered to their home; someone physically checks on them each day; we care bags bring cheer on birthdays and holidays Santee Food Bank - adults and children experiencing food insecurity are able to come get food and commodities on a weekly basis 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 25 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians purchased and collected items for the we care bags. Also, two Rotarians are weekly drivers for Meals on Wheels. Rotarians deliver food to homebound seniors on a monthly basis. 6. District must retain receipts of all expenditures for at least five years.
