Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: Malawi Women's Sewing Project 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with the fourth highest percentage of people living in extreme poverty. During each year, African Enterprise trains a total of 40 women . They learn sewing skills, small business skills and how to prepare nutritious meals for their families. They also receive their own sewing machine and fabric upon graduation. Our club will be donating $750, which will provide the materials and education for two women to go through this program. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 2 women and their families 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Two women are the direct beneficiaries, but their families and their communities will also benefit from their skills and their ability to care for their families basic needs. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 1 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. One of our members has been leading the organization that provides this training for the past 40 years. His direct work with the organization helps us to feel connected to the women participating. 6.
