Rotary Club: Carlsbad Hi-Noon Project Title: Trade School Scholarships 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary applied for a $3,500 District Grant to pay for the cash prizes for our FY 22-23 Scholarship raffle. The grant was matched by a $3,500 club donation. Tickets were sold from February through March 2023 and the winning tickets were drawn at the Club meeting on Monday April 3, 2023.
Scholarship applications were accepted from January through March 2023. Applications were evaluated by a team of club members and interviews were conducted at Carlsbad High School and on zoom in late April. Scholarships will be awarded to students by the end of the 22-23 Rotary Fiscal year. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 35 students will receive scholarships 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Beneficiaries are High School Seniors who will receive help to fund their continuing education, whether that is a 4-year college, community college or trade or technical school. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 65 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Members sold raffle tickets to neighbors, friends and family, went to events such as High School concerts and other Rotary club meetings and went to grocery stores to sell tickets. Members also bought tickets themselves. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? We did attend other Rotary club meetings and sold tickets to members there. Our second place prize was won by a Rotarian, Diana Shimkus of the Solana Beach Rotary, who donated the proceeds to the Rotary foundation. 7. Income
