Rotary Club: College Project Title: Kids Literary Farmers Market 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? We provided fresh vegetables that were "sold" to children who earned "kindness coins" by visiting booths and/or participating in various literacy-themed activities. The market took place on the grounds of the former Joy School in Fairbanks, Alaska on July 25, 2023. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 1,000 children and their families 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The 1,000 children and their families, many of whom are food-insecure, benefited by being able to "purchase" fresh fruit and vegetables with coins earned participating in various events. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 8 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians were in charge of the vegetable booth where the helped identify and sell fresh fruit and vegetables. A selection of hydroponic plants provided an opportunity to explain hydroponics to the children and their parents. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? The Noel Wien Library and Stars of Gold Readers organized this very successful event by securing space, advertising, procuring vegetables, books to give away, and soliciting over 35 community organizations to participate. 7.
