Rotary Club: Homer-Kachemak Bay Project Title: After School Programs 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The initial project was to help finance a new Boys and Girls club in Homer. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, this endeavor failed. The intended funds were diverted to the South Peninsula Area Rec Center (SPARC) which provides day and evening physical activities for Homer's adults and youth. Additionally, SPARC provides Homer adolescents evening activities in a secure, climatically controlled and drug free environment under adult supervision. 2. How many people benefited from this project? greater than 600 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Homer adult and adolescent residents. SPARC provided a safe supervised and drug free environment to enjoy the benefits of physical exercise, human relationships and teen bonding without the concern of drugs. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? ~13 Rotarians 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. 3 or 4 Rotarians were involved in researching and vetting the available non-profits in Homer who currently provide child and/or youth activities and/or services. The club board (9 members) was involved in multiple discussions concerning the project. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? N/A 7. Income
