District Grant Final Report

District 5010

2023-24

Rotary Club: Fairbanks Golden Heart

Project Title: Pedestrian Reflectors

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The reflectors we researched and developed during October and early November. The reflectors had to be large enough to see easily, had to attach easily to clothing or backpacks and had to have the Rotary logo. A mock up was created and shown on November 20th. The order was placed on Black Friday at a better pricing level. Reflectors were received on December 27th. Multiple elementary schools were called in early January to determine the need for each school. The reflectors were delivered to schools between January 25th and February 9th.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 2750 elementary and teen students received a safety reflector

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Reflectors were given to 11 schools and one youth advocacy shelter. Many schools expressed sincere gratitude that someone was targeting the need for reflectors for their students. Previous programs have disappeared to address this need. The reflectors were passed out during an extreme cold period with ice fog present.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 12

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

One member has a business with access to order the reflectors and wholesale prices. Another member had the vision and worked on the search to find the right reflector. A third member distributed some of the reflectors. The club invited a local government agency to speak on pedestrian safety issues.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

N/A
