Project Title: Mobile Food Pantry


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

#4674 Mobile Food Pantry Supplies - Tents, bags and signage purchased in May 2024 for ongoing use at monthly food distributions at Fairview Recreation Center in Anchorage.

#4674.1 - Anchorage Parks Foundation - Support for the Outdoor School in Parks program for Title 1 elementary school students. March - May 2024 in Anchorage.

#4674.2 - Girls on the Run - Support for the program's 5K spring celebration on May 11, 2024 in Anchorage.

2. How many people benefited from this project? MFP - average of 150 families/month; APF - 240 youth; GOTR - 490 participants

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

MFP - Anchorage families experiencing food insecurity. Providing fresh and perishable food to families in need.

APF - Title 1 5th grade elementary school students. The program engages students directly with their physical environment, local culture and history. Students learn about forest ecology, local climate impacts, invasive species, stream ecology, renewable energy and wildlife safety at field study stations in the greater Anchorage area.

GOTR - An ethnically diverse group of girls aged 8-13, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. The program empowers youth to build healthy physical and mental habits that last a lifetime; recognize their inner strength, imagine their possibilities, and receive life skills training.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? MFP - Average of 15 - 20 Rotarians per month.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

MFP - Checking in clients and completing Food Bank of AK forms for new clients; unpacking pallets of food provided by the Food Bank, packing bags of food for drive up and walk up clients, organize and control the flow of cars and walk ups, deliver bags to cars and individuals. Set up and take down of tables, traffic cones, and other equipment.
