Project Title: College Tuition

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

This project covers college tuition and related supplies for five students in Guatemala. Without this grant, these impoverished students would not have been able to attend their local universities. The college year in Guatemala is from July 2023 through June 2024. Gifts from private donors covered the first semester, including the cash match from the e-Club, July-November 2023. This grant DDF covered second semester January -June 2024. Three students have been attending college at the local business college; two in their third year and one in her fifth year who graduated Two students attend an engineering university studying computer engineering (second year) and industrial engineering (third). Three have jobs as well which help support their families.

The document in pdf for this project shows a spreadsheet, Moneygram receipts and Universities' receipts for each student. The total of receipts is more than the total of the grant. However, the eclub and friends covered the difference.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 6

Six college students were the beneficiaries. They are going to be able to support themselves, their extended families, and their communities. Education is the humanitarian need being met.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? All members of our Club - 8

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

We have had continual Zoom sessions between our club members in San Diego and these students in Guatemala where instructional and emotional support is given, including life skills. Our Club also gave the students online English for Call Center Training. Our club sponsored a fundraising effort where two girls produced Guatemalan fanny packs and shipped them to our club to sell. This way they are learning to support themselves.
