Rotary Club: Point Loma (San Diego) Project Title: Cabrillo Elementary Arts Educa 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? 84 students in Grades 1-4 were bused to the NTC Arts District at Liberty Station from Cabrillo School once a week for 2 semesters for art education classes provided by teaching artists in their studios. Point Loma Rotary, in addition to other community groups, provided the funding for paying the artists and to pay for weekly transportation and supplies. The program took place during the 23-24 school year. (Page 1 of the attached "NTC Foundation Cabrillo Report" includes the receipt for $6,000) 2. How many people benefited from this project? 84 students from Cabrillo Elementary School grades 1-4 participated. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries are the students and the artists who participate. The students from this school come from a variety of backgrounds. Among them are military dependents, often due to deployments, subject to a single parent household. Many come from an income below poverty and struggle with constant transition and lack of security. Liberty School is an opportunity for kids to do art activities they normally might not have access to. It provides an opportunity for students to build and enhance their creativity with a hands- on experience by engaging in enrichment activities in the arts to promote a positive learning attitude, encourage exploration of new possibilities, increase self esteem and create learning opportunities for creative thinking. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 20-25 Rotarians participated in this project 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. The Point Loma Rotary Club president met with the Cabrillo Elementary School Principal to review how the Arts program satisfies California education requirements. The Point Loma Rotary held their weekly meeting at the Liberty Station Arts District. The program included speakers from the NTC Foundation, teachers and artists explaining Liberty School and the benefits to the children. Rotarians were also given tours of some of the art studios used in the Program. Rotary Club members also attended a separate program titled Liberty School in Session hosted by the NTC Foundation. Rotarians were also able to observe students in their classes at Liberty School. See attached "NTC Foundation Cabrillo Report" pages 4-5 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Point Loma Assembly was the lead organization for this project. Point Loma Rotary and others listed on attached "NTC Foundation Cabrillo Report" Page 3 actively participated and provided critical funding. 7. Income
