District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2023-24

Rotary Club: Rancho Bernardo (San Diego)

Project Title: Poway Symphony Orchestra

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Poway Symphony Orchestra Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to proving great music in public concerts at our primary hall, the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Our semi-professional orchestra plays three high-level concerts per year and plans to expand our offering whenever possible.

Educational Outreach Fund: The Orchestra is already a "class" in the Poway Unified School District ("PUSD") Adult School. Funding will provide a) tuition-offset for talented advanced student musicians in the PUSD to have the opportunity of playing with the Orchestra, and b) planning for future school event concerts for students. Our ultimate objective will be to provide PSO concerts specifically for PUSD students within the School District's purview.

Player Development Fund: Payment to approximately 20 additional paid musicians to strengthen the string sections and to ensure the participation of other musicians essential for the performance of full-scale symphonic works.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 20 players of the orchestra

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?
