Rotary Club: Carlsbad Hi-Noon Project Title: Carlsbad Hi-Noon Raffle 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club is honored to submit our final report for District Grant P -4905. Because we were at the start of our Rotary year, we looked at two approaches for using a District Grant. One was to use some or all of the District Grant funds to support the Club President’s initiative of supporting adolescent behavioral health programs and projects. The other was to continue supporting the Club’s highly successful, third annual High School Scholarship Raffle. Much of the work our Club does in the community supports the intersection of education and youth activities, especially for the underserved. Because the ABH initiative was in its beginning stages of development, the Board opted to direct all funds to the Raffle. Once again, the Scholarship Raffle proved to be highly successful as it provided 17 graduating, mostly at-risk, high school students with $42,000 in college scholarships. Fifteen students from Carlsbad High School and 2 from Sage Creek were recipients. Club member JoAnn Ross who proposed the Raffle and has chaired it for three years led our Club on this project with much support from a group of other dedicated Rotarians. At the end of the day, the Club felt the Raffle was a way of supporting ABH with recipients being recognized for achievement and a desire to succeed. In essence, this is one of many ways we Create Hope in our Community and the World, our modified theme for the year. We got off to a slow start because of a delay with the State in providing us with the registration needed to conduct the Raffle. Attached is a PDF spreadsheet from the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Charity Foundation showing the funds and expenses for running the project. We sold 2,650 tickets (with a cap of 3000 tickets to be sold) and received $11,598 in donations. Our expenses were $4,878, which included prize money. Our 1st Prize was $5,000 in cash; 2nd $1,500 in cash; and 3rd was a gift basket valued at about $1,000. The 1st prize winner donated half of her winnings ($2,500) back to the Club, which went back towards scholarships. Tickets were priced at $20 each or the incentive price of 6 tickets for $100. The Club went to five area Rotary Clubs, a Chamber of Commerce mixer, three school events and promoted the event at Club meetings and through seven press releases. It took a Village to accomplish this event. Also attached is a copy of a Raffle ticket, a press release on the Scholarship recipients, and a photo of them. The Club thanks the District for supporting the event and our kids!!! 2. How many people benefited from this project? 17 students received scholarships out of the $42,000 raised. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Beneficiaries included 15 students from Carlsbad High School and 2 from Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad. A total of $42,000 was awarded to students. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? We have ~74 members. Nearly all sold or purchased tickets. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. All Club members received Raffle tickets to sell. Many purchased them as well. See Question 1. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? This project was solely sponsored by our Club. 7. Income
