Project Title: Pregnant Teens in School


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The HOPE Program was created to mentor, support and help parenting and pregnant students graduate and be educated young adults and families with goals and skills to be successful.

Parenting Skills Elective: this course provides resilience-building and empowering curriculum focusing on various parenting skills topics from pregnancy through toddler years such as: Food and Nutrition, Baby/Toddler Safety, Child Development Stages, Healthy Parenting Styles, Home Safety, Water Safety, Health and Wellness, Financial Planning for Parents and more. This course was designed for students who are pregnant or parenting, but all students are welcome to take the course.

HOPE Program classrooms allow students to bring their babies to school with them. These are equipped with child-friendly areas. HOPE Program offers support groups, mentorships, referrals, academic and parenting goal setting and so much more.

Through community partnerships, they provide students with multiple resources such as: Baby essentials such as diapers, wipes and baby equipment. Music classes with Chimes Financial planning classes through Girls Invest. Referrals to pregnancy centers that offer Parenting and pregnant classes and support Volunteers and guest speakers Community events/Food and diaper drives. Holiday Celebrations, Field Trips, Parenting Circles, Special, Events, Crafts/Luncheon, Workshops and Graduation are some of the communities we build with the HOPE students.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries were teen parents who have chosen to continue their education. This program allows them to bring their infants/toddlers to the school, gives them a safe place to play while their parent can keep an eye on them, and allows them to work towards receiving a high school diploma. Not only do the teen parents benefit from this grant, but their children do as well.

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

One of our Rotarians is an administrator at the school and she ensured that the money was spent appropriately and the student parents got items that they needed.
