District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2023-24

Rotary Club: Escondido

Project Title: Youth Services

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

LEAD and RYLA camps. We sent 6 students to RYLA and 4 students to LEAD. Youth Service Director also attended LEAD as a camp advisor. Scholarships were given to students selected from 5 high schools in Escondido and a luncheon was held to award them in front of school counselors, family, and Rotarians.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 500

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Directly the students that were able to participate in the leadership camps were the direct beneficiaries. Indirectly, their families, schools, peers and everyone involved in the camps are the beneficiaries. Economic and community development and Pace and Conflict/Resolution was met. The students take back what they have learned and hopefully continue to grow into leaders and future Rotarians. Scholarships benefited students and their families assisting with expenses to continue their education into college.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 15

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

Chairs of LEAD and RYLA connected with schools to collect applications for both LEAD and RYLA. Youth Service Director went to LEAD as camp advisor. Scholarship committee and chair interviewed and selected students. Coordinated luncheon. Committee chairs presented 5 schools with scholarships to their students.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The Escondido Unified School District helps to select students to attend the camps yearly and collects Scholarship applications.
