District 5010

2024-25

Rotary Club: Anchorage Mid Town

Project Title: Eagle Scout Scholarship

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The Anchorage Midtown Rotary annually awards scholarships to Eagle Scouts from Alaska high schools, emphasizing the Rotary Four-Way Test and its alignment with Scout Law. This year, the club awarded three scholarships totaling $2,500: two recipients received $1,000 each, and one received $500. Applicants were required to submit an application and a 750-1,000 word essay on the topic, "The Rotary Four-Way Test and Its Relationship to the Scout Law." A panel of club members selected recipients based on the quality and content of their essays, along with their applications. The award ceremonies took place over the summer at the club's meeting place, IHOP.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 3

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries of this project were three Eagle Scouts from Alaska high schools who received scholarships totaling $2,500 to support their advanced education or training. This project addressed the humanitarian need of fostering youth development by encouraging ethical leadership, and empowering them to continue contributing positively to their communities.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 5

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

One of our Rotarians is the Scout Executive for the Great Alaska Council and assisted with promoting the scholarship opportunity to eligible applicants. We also had a panel of club members responsible for reviewing essays and selecting the recipients of the award.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

The Great Alaska Council, played a key role in promoting the scholarship to eligible Eagle Scouts across Alaska. By leveraging its network and communication channels, the council helped ensure the scholarship opportunity reached a broad audience of qualified candidates, increasing awareness and encouraging applications from deserving youth.
