Rotary Club: La Jolla Golden Triangle Project Title: Supporting Afghan's Education 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This grant helped to support program an education program in Jalalabad known as Afghan Youth Comment (AYC). AYC operates internet connected computer labs I in 13 gender segregated public high schools. The funds from this grant helped support teachers' salaries in these schools. Full time teachers are paid $250 per month and half time teachers are paid $125 per month. This grant also helped support the salary for a female sports coordinator with a salary of $350 per month. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 529 female students participate in the education program on a monthly basis per term. The grant funding covered parts of 2 terms (second half of fall semester and first half of spring semester). Thus, more than 1,000 female students benefited from the grant funds. 108 females also participate in the sports programs. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The beneficiaries are the students in the classrooms and participating in the sports programs. Without funding for these programs, the girls would have no access to formal education or the opportunities to interact with other females outside of their homes 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 3 Rotarians on the US side and 2 Rotarians in Jalalabad help oversee AYC and the sports program. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Jalalabad Rotarians supervise the programs and oversee the handling of funds and payment of expenses. They prepare monthly narrative and financial reports and PowerPoint pictures all of which are sent to the US Rotarians for review and approval. Also, Rotarians on both sides arrange for zoom calls between students in Jalalabad and students in the US. Rotarians in Jalalabad provide curriculum on topics relating to social responsibilities that are discussed in the classrooms. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? NA 7.
