Rotary Club: Del Mar Project Title: Neonatal Ward Equipment 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This project supplied equipment to the neonatal ward at Hôpital Prince Régent Charles (HPRC) in Bujumbura, Burundi. Four blue LED light phototherapy units were provided under this project and were officially handed over to the hospital on March 21, 2025. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Estimate 750 per annum 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The direct beneficiaries are the babies born in the neonatal ward of HPRC. Phototherapy is used to treat jaundice in newborns making it easier for the liver to break down and remove bilirubin from the baby's blood. Since these units are used in the neonatal ward where babies are born prematurely, I estimate that 90% of babies in this ward would benefit from phototherapy. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 4 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Dugan Lamoise, RC Del Mar, requested help from an engineering contact in China to assess the phototherapy units under consideration. Karin Davies, RC Del Mar and Pat Bromberger, Neonatologist and our non-Rotarian project partner guided Dugan and Micheal in equipment selection. Micheal Bogere RC Great Lakes in Bujumbura managed the purchase, shipping and receipt of the equipment. District 9150 DG Suzanne Behle Zoung-Kanyi officiated in the equipment handover at the hospital on March 21, 2025. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? 7. Income
