Rotary Club: Solana Beach Project Title: Brewcycling Collaborative 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? San Diego Brewcycling Collaborative - BrewSCRAPS & Plastic to Pavement Recycling: Guided by their mission to empower craft beverage businesses with innovative recycling solutions and sustainability education, they run two key programs to tackle industry waste in San Diego: BrewSCRAPS and Plastic to Pavement. Through "BrewSCRAPS" they ensure materials like malt bags, shrink wrap, and pallet strapping are properly sorted and sent to the right facilities, reducing contamination and increasing recycling success - especially since these items are not accepted in curbside programs. This initiative also guarantees that aluminum cans and cardboard, though widely recyclable, don't end up in landfills due to improper sorting. The "Plastic to Pavement" program diverts hard-to-recycle plastic can holders to MacRebur Southern California, where they are chipped and repurposed into a sustainable asphalt additive, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The grant enabled Brewcycling to add Accident insurance and Directors & Officers insurance to their annual policy, ensuring better protection for the volunteers and brewery participants. Also partially cover the fees to hire a videographer to help create a video campaign that will increase the nonprofit's exposure and enhance their fundraising efforts this upcoming spring. 2. How many people benefited from this project? The Board of Directors (three people), 10 volunteers, 45 brewery partners + Residents of San Diego County 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The recycling initiatives and sustainability efforts directly benefit San Diego County residents by reducing landfill waste and preventing environmental pollution. Through the educational programs, breweries and beverage companies gain the knowledge and resources needed to implement more sustainable practices, effectively diverting their production waste. This project addresses the critical need for improved waste management in a leading industry in San Diego, fostering a cleaner, more sustainable community for all. 4.
