District Grant Final Report

District 5340

2024-25

Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside

Project Title: Helping Needy Populations

Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The East County Transitional Living Center (ECTLC) provides transitional housing, emergency housing, job skills development, opportunities to earn a GED, case management and linkage to other resources which provide a hand up to individuals and families, enabling them to secure permanent housing and become productive members of our community. We donated $750 to ECTLC to purchase the items that are most needed for those they serve, including toiletries and food.

Sharia's Closet provides free, emergency clothing to those experiencing financial hardship or crisis. They help children attend school with confidence and provide teens or adults with professional attire for interviews or the workplace. They empower members of the community in need by promoting self-esteem and self-identity. They connect with community members in need through direct referrals from a wide and long-standing network of schools and service agencies, many of whom are not accessing support services elsewhere. We will donate $400 for them to purchase clothing, hygiene items, bags and household essentials.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 125

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

With ECTLC, the beneficiaries are the adults, children and families transitioning from homelessness that are taking part in the program.

With Sharia's Closet, the beneficiaries are those experiencing financial hardship or crisis, as well as those entering the job force. They also assist children removed from the home by child welfare.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 0
