Rotary Club: Santee-Lakeside Project Title: SD River Park Foundation 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? Funds were used for the Clean River Program in Santee. The Clean River staff and volunteers clean thousands of pounds of trash from the San Diego Riverbed and adjacent River Park Trail areas, such as Mast Park. They have cleaned a staggering 53,550 pounds of trash in Santee last year. This is not only vital for the health of the river ecosystem, but also decreases the public health hazards of pollution and a healthier environment for Santee residents to enjoy recreation. Funds also helped sponsor community river cleanups in Santee, purchase cleanup supplies such as trash bags, and cover the costs of data collection on the amount and type of trash present to inform efficient and effective cleanup efforts. Their Education program also provides free innovative STEM learning experiences along the San Diego River to Santee K-12 students. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 100,000 3.
