Rotary Club: Escondido After Five Project Title: Facilitate HISET Tests 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The After 5 Club issued a check to Escondido Education COMPACT for assistance to high school students in Escondido that were unable to graduate from high school. Focus is on mentoring and individualized tutoring services leading to high school equivalency/high school diploma obtainment. This project also provided funds to cover the cost of HISET tests for low-income students. The majority of activities took place within City of Escondido limits, specifically in Education COMPACT's Learning Center located on 220 South Broadway. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 30 low-income students benefitted 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The young people served through this project were able to either continue their higher education or prepare for the workforce through the efforts of coaches and tutors. This project keeps these youth from relying on social services available in the community to put food on the table. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Six club members participated 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Club members provide mentoring, coaching, and moral support to the students. Students and Rotarians also participated in service projects like helping with the refurbishment of the playground at the local Salvation Army. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Escondido Education COMPACT is a unique nonprofit committed to meeting the needs of at-risk youth ages 12-24 in an effort to eliminate any and all barriers that might impede their success. COMPACT staff was responsible for coordinating student services and providing assistance with HISET Test requirements as well as providing tutoring and preparation. 7. Income
